The Cotahuasi Canyon is the paradise for adventure lovers. Explore the deepest canyon in the world, the ideal place for escaping from traditional tours.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arequipa – Cotahuasi Town

Pick up at 6AM from the hotel and departure from Arequipa, in 3 hours we will arrive to the Majes valley, then we will continue until arrive to Chuquibamba (3000 MASL), where we will have lunch. Then we will continue driving for 2.30 hrs until arrive to the Pallarcocha area which is the highest part of the trip (4700 MASL), around 4pm we will arrive to Allway, a natural viewpoint of the Cotahuasi Canyon. Then we will descent for 1 hour. Arrive to Cotahuasi town, accommodation in the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Cotahuasi – Taurisma – Alca

Breakfast at 8:30AM and departure by car to Taurisma bridge, located at 20 minutes. We will cross the bridge and walk among retamales next to the Cotahuasi river, we will visit the town, the square and its beautiful church.

Then we will come back for driving to Tomepampa town and continue to Alca town, where we will take photos of the typical balconies and the square.

After lunch in a restaurant, we will go to Luicho hot springs where we can relax. Departure to Cotahutuasi, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Cotahuasi – Sipia Bridge – El Niño

Breakfast at 5:30AM and departure to the Sipia bridge, located at 1 hour by car. We will start the trek at this points (7 hrs hiking – easy level). Then the path moves away from the river and in one hour we will reach a natural viewpoint where we will have a panoramic view of the Sipia waterfall (we will visit It on the last day, when we return to Cotahuasi).

Then we will walk for 1:30 hrs, we will cross a small natural tunnel and 1 minute later we will reach a farmhouse where we will have the box lunch. Then we will continue finding along the way mellocactus (dwarf cacti), afterwards we will reach an area where we will find the Weberbauer giant cactus which can measure 12 meters.

We will continue hiking until the natural thermal baths of “El Niño”, where we will have a relaxing time renewing energy to continue the trip. Then we will camp. Dinner and overnight.


Day 4: Niñochaca – Huaña Ruins – Quechualla

After breakfast we will get ready for a new day hiking to the Niñochaca bridge, which is impressive, in this area the canyon is 10 meters. Then we will arrive to the most dangerous rafting area where the river view is spectacular, our path will be always next to the Cotahuasi river, after 1 hour walking we will arrive to the Huaña ruins, then we will cross a hanging point and then we will walk for 1 hour to Quechualla town, where we will have lunch and take panoramic photos of the area (here you can buy fruits, wine and soft drinks.

At 3PM we begin the return directly to the thermal baths, then to the base camp, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Sipia Waterfall – Cotahuasi Town

At 5AM we will have breakfast and we will return. In 5 hours we will be on the top of the sipia waterfall and we will go down directly through a sand hill, which people enjoy a lot!

The sipia waterfall has 150 meters of fall and 2 rainbows are formed inside, It is spectacular. At 1pm we will return to the Sipia bridge where we will drive by car to Cotahuasi town. Arrive, dinner and overnight.


Day 6: Cotahuasi – Arequipa

At 6AM we leave cotahuasi (after breakfast), around 9 am we will stop for visiting the Pallarcocha lagoon and then we will continue the journey.
Lunch in route in Chuquibamba or Corire where shrimp can be served. Arrive to Arequipa at 18:30.
