Alternative Trek to Colca Canyon – Tapay Trek Itinerary
Enjoy the adventure inside the Colca Canyon with this alternative Tapay Trek.
This new alternative trek to Tapay allows you to explore the second deepest canyon in the world in a different way!
Day 1. Arequipa – Chivay – Mirador Cruz del Condor – Pampa San Miguel – Tapay
Pick up from the hotel in Arequipa at 3:00AM.
After three hours driving we will stop in Chivay town for having breakfast. Then we will continue to the famous Mirador Cruz del Condor.
We will stop for one hour for watching the condors flying and the Colca Canyon.
Afterwards we will drive to Pampa San Miguel where we will start the trekking inside the canyon.
We will hike for 3 hours until arrive to San Juan de Chuccho where we will have lunch.
On the way to Tapay we will cross the Colca river and we will learn more about local customs, flora and fauna.
Arrive to Tapay after one a half hours walking. Dinner and overnight in a family run accommodation.
Day 2. Tapay – Sangalle (Oasis)
Breakfast and short hike for around one hour to a pre Inca ruins and admire the Colca Canyon beauty and two snow mountains: The Sepregina and the Bomboya.
Then we will continue to Sangalle (Oasis) passing through Cosñirhua and Malata.
Arrive to Sangalle, after walking 2 hours. Acommodation in the lodge, lunch and dinner.
Relaxing time in the swimming pool, dinner and overnight.
Day 3. Sangalle (Oasis) – Cabanaconde – Chivay – Arequipa
At 5AM we will start going up to Cabanaconde town (3 and a half hours walking). Breakfast and departure by car to Chivay town.
On route we will stop to see the andean terraces. Before arriving to Chivay, we will stop in Yanque town for realxing in the thermal hot springs.
Lunch in Chivay and departure to Arequipa, stopping at Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve wherewe will watch: Lamas, Alpacas and vicuñas and Patapampa (natural viwpoint located at 4800MASL).
Arrive to Arequipa at 5:30PM.
