The Route of the Ampato

The route of the Ampato snop capped mountain includes 4 small villages which are close to. These villages are visited by tourists.

Huambo:

Located in the lower part of the Colca Canyon at 3332 MASL, Huambo is a rugged territory, with elevated hills that are natural viewpoints, plains, slopes and deep ravines that end in the Colca River, forming small valleys.
The most attractive places for tourism are: the temple of San Lorenzo, the archaeological site of Jayaquima, the Chullpas de San Miguel, La Cruz del Calvario, the Canco valley, the archaeological site of Huapullja, the waterfalls of the Devil’s Throat, etc

Lluta:

Located at 3030 MASL, the access to Lluta is by the road from Arequipa to Yura.
This is a district famous for its red cheeses, whose unique color is given by the natural red salt from the Lluta mine that is used to make cheeses. Among its attractions are the Valley of the Enigmas, the Huatoccasa site, the Ampato volcano, etc.

Huanca:

Located at 3050 MASL, the access is via Huanca, through an asphalted and affirmed road. one of its main attractions is the Red Lizard, a curious geological formation of red sediment, 70 meters in height by 140 in length, also has the Pichirigma Canyon, the archaeological complex of Sonccoquilla, etc.

Majes:

Located at a height of 1270 MASL. Access from Arequipa is via Arequipa – El Pedregal by a paved road. Majes is one of the most important agricultural development projects for export in the Macro South Region.
