Peru has ideal routes for you to practice mountain biking and learn more about these destinations and be in contact with nature. Lima, San Martín, Arequipa and Piura are some of the regions that have exclusive paths for you to develop this sport full of adrenaline.
Pachacamac
The first route on the list is located south of Lima -approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes- in the valley formed by the Pachacámac River. Here, not only can you get to know the archaeological sites and ancestral paths of the place, but you can also be in contact with beautiful hills and see its varied flora and fauna up close.
The landscape in Pachacámac is beautiful, either in winter because of how green the hills are or in summer when the hills return to their brown essence. The bicycle circuit has a distance of approximately 20 kilometers, of which half are uphill and that – at a good pace – can be done in an average of an hour and a half, reaching a height of 650 meters.
Chilina Valley
This natural space that crosses the Arequipa districts of Yanahuara, Cayma and Alto Selva Alegre, is ideal for people who are just starting out in this sport.
Its relief is, in general, of mountains and hills of medium inclination, steep and steep. It is located between 2,493 and 2,578 meters above sea level and has two clearly marked zones: agricultural and wild. The tour begins in Cayma, and is 15 km long, which could take between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the speed and the number of stops you make. Canchaque
The Piura region is present with this 75-kilometer route, in which you will enjoy various natural settings. It is located in the province of Huancabamba, 3 hours from the capital of the region.
According to some experts, this route is recommended for cyclists with a little more experience and physical preparation, since the height – you can reach up to 3000 m s. n. m.- and temperature changes play a very important role.
It is recommended to carry out this route that begins in the city of Piura, between May and October, months in which the weather is mild.
Shitarero Trail
This destination in the Peruvian Amazon is ideal for exercising and, at the same time, enjoying the best of nature to the fullest.
This route is located in the province of Tarapoto in the region of San Martín. The tour begins in the city of Lamas and, in almost 15 km, you will be able to visit the various populated towns where its inhabitants will be happy to welcome you; as well as making a stop at the Mayo River. The flora and fauna that you will discover along the way is another of the great attractions of this route.
