The World Culinary Awards consolidated the prestige of Peruvian gastronomy, by placing a restaurant in Lima in first place.
‘Mayta’, located in Lima, obtained the highest recognition as the ‘Best Restaurant in the World 2022’ in the third installment of the World Culinary Awards 2022, whose ceremony was held in Dubai on December 13.
Jaime Pesaque’s gastronomic spot was nominated along with eight other kitchens from around the world such as Anan Restaurant & Rooftop Bar (Vietnam), Atelier Crenn (United States), Attica (Australia), Château Mon Désir (Mauritania), COYA (Dubai ), Atlantis (Bahamas) La Colombe (South Africa) and Uliassi (Italy). However, it was the culinary proposal from Peru that managed to win first place.
The sister event of the World Travel Awards delivers these recognitions, which are chosen by a group of industry professionals, as well as the general public.
“Mayta, which means Noble Land in the Aymara language, is a personal and contemporary expression of Peruvian gastronomy and territory,” highlights chef Jaime Pesaque on the restaurant’s website.
His proposal is based on contemporary Peruvian cuisine where the traceability of native products is always sought, combined with more current techniques. The place also has a pisco bar.
More Awards to the Peruvian Cuisine
These awards also grant various recognitions at the regional level and by country. For this reason, in Latin America, the country won other awards such as: ‘Best Culinary Destination 2022’, which was awarded to Peru and ‘Best Emblematic Restaurant’ for ‘La Gloria’.
At the country level, ‘Belmond Las Casitas Colca Canyon’ won in the category of ‘Best Hotel Restaurant in Peru’. This thanks to the proposal of its culinary spot called ‘Curiña’. It is located in Arequipa.
