Day 1. Arequipa – Chivay – Madrigal – Chimpa Fortress – Cabanaconde
Pick up at 7AM from the hotel and drive to Chivay town. Along the way we will stop in Pampa Cañahuas for watching vicugnas and alpagas.
Afterwards arrive to Patapampa the highest point located at 4850 MASL, a natural view point from we will watch volcanoes like: Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca Hualca, and Mismi.
At midday we will arrive to Chivay town for having lunch, afterwards we will cross the bridge to Coporaque town for visiting the right side of the Colca Valley.
On the right side of the Colca Valley are located Coporaque, Ichupampa, Lari and Madrigal villages.
We will drive until Madrigal village, where we will start the hike to Chimpa Fortress (2 hours hiking) which is located in the middle of the mountains, an impressive Collagua building.
From the top we will enjoy an amazing view of the canyon with its pre – inca terraces.
The fortress was originally a strategic military building of the Collaguas people. Because of its location, the fortress offers great views from both sides of the Colca canyon.
Then we will take some time for exploring the are and taking pictures from the “litomaquetas” (models of the terraces carved in rocks). Then we will continue by car to Cabanaconde town, where we will have dinner and slpee at Kuntur Wassi hotel.
Day 2. Cabanaconde – Achachihua Viewpoint – Cruz del Condor – Cruz del Cura – La Calera – Arequipa
At 7AM Before breakfast we will do short hike to Achachihua view point located at 15 minutes from Cabanaconde town.
At this view point, there are not tourists and you will enjoy the awesome views from the Oasis (Sangalle) inside the canyon and Huaruro waterfall. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant from where we will get great landscape views and condor’s flying.
Then we will drive to Cruz del Condor views point for watching the condors and the Colca Canyon, afterwards we will hike to Cruz del Cura (optional), a short hike for around 1 hour from where we can get amazing views from the pre inca terraces and lagoons.
Then we will continue to Chivay town visiting in route: Antahuilque and Wayrapunko view points and Maca town.
Arrive to Chivay and visit to the hot springs for relaxing. Lunch in Chivay and departure to Arequipa. Arrive at 5PM.
