The Sogay waterfall hike takes you to discover  a traditional village located in Yarabamba at 45 minutes by car from the Arequipa’s main square. Surrounded by a natural landscape formed by pre-Columbian terraces which seems to be an amphitheater.

Trek to The Waterfall of Sogay

This picturesque village was built mainly with white volcanic stones (the famous ” Sillar “). At 45 minutes hiking from Sogay main square we will find the first “Sogay waterfalls”.

The Sogay waterfall hike can also facilitate your acclimatization before going at higher altitudes.

Sogay Hike Itinerary:

Sogay Waterfall hike starts at 9AM, at this time the tour guide will pick up from the hotel and departure to Sogay village.

After 40 minutes by car, we will arrive to Sogay main square. At this point we will start Sogay waterfall hike. After following an irrigation canal, we will reach a small gravel path which skirts the hillside, then we will pass giant cactus and imposing boulders.

Soon the path reaches the river and we will find dodging around tree branches and scrambling over boulders. After crossing and re-crossing the river we will arrive at the first waterfall nestled between the sheer walls of the canyon.

Here there is a small pool where we can paddle or swim in the icy water and a small shady beach where we will have a picnic time.

From here those how dare can scramble up the rocky side of the canyon for about 20 metres to reach the second much larger waterfall.

Return to the place whee the car we will be waiting for us (45 minutes hiking) and return to Arequipa city. Along the way back to Arequipa, we’ll make some stops to enjoy the landscapes abd taking pictures. Arrival at your hotel.
