Peru is a true paradise for nature lovers, especially for those who practice birdwatching tourism. Peru is one of the three countries with the largest number of birds in the world (1852 species, of which 105 are endemic). Its beautiful and majestic plumage has made some species considered the most beautiful globally. Parrots, parakeets and macaws are the birds with the most exotic birds in the world.


Pihuicho

This gray-cheeked parakeet with yellow-edged wings measures between 21 and 25 cm. It lives below 300 meters above sea level. in the Peruvian Amazon and river islands. In flight it shows a multicolored combination (blue, white and yellow) on its wings. Their main food is worms and fruits.


Red Head Parrot

This species of similar size to a dove is an endemic bird of the Tumbesian region that lives in the highest parts of the forests. When young, practically all of its plumage is green except for the anterior edges of its wings, which are red. The characteristic color of its head occurs in the adult stage. They feed on grains and seeds of various species.

Red and Green Macaw

This bird has wonderful red plumage throughout its body, its wings are green with blue tips, as is its immense tail. Its very strong beak allows it to break the hard shells of the fruits, cut branches and defend itself from other species. It lives in the tallest trees in the Amazon, near water and clay sources.


Orange Aligned Parrot

Its habitats are tropical forests, the forest limits of the Amazon and also in open areas with solitary trees. Fly over below 500 m.s.n.m. in flocks of more than 50 individuals. It has greenish coloration with light blue spots on the forehead and yellow on the cheeks, while the wings are orange.


Perico Tui

With yellow plumage on the forehead, a greenish body and a dark brown beak, it is also known as Catita Frentigualda. It lives in the Amazon: it is common to see it in large rivers. It measures approximately 17 cm and has medium short wings.


Scarlet Macaw

It is one of the symbols of the Peruvian Amazon. It likes to be in the trees, near rivers, streams and to fly in large groups. It measures between 84 and 92 cm. Its body is striking red and in mid-flight you can see the yellow and blue colors on its wings. Its beak is hooked and very strong, which allows it to feed on seeds, dig and defend itself from predators.
