This Chili river is the only one that the city of Arequipa has, which cuts in such a way that it crosses the length and breadth of the city, dividing the city into two parts, formerly there was only one bridge that linked both parts of the city, it was the Bolognesi bridge.
This river is characterized by having several cultivation areas on its banks, which often depend on its waters for irrigation, this river is born with the Sumbay and Blanco rivers and together with the Yura river they form the Vítor river, which flows into the Pacific.
The Chili River has an extension of 121.7 kilometers in length from the Aguada Blanca reservoir, almost after the confluence of the Blanco and Sumbay rivers until it empties into the Pacific Ocean and the Quilca River.
Obviously here within the Arequipa region, its importance is quite high since the city of Arequipa itself is located here, through that river the water is used in population assets, in industry, extractive activities and quite a lot in the sector agrarian.
The 80% of the water resource goes to the agricultural sector made up of various water user organizations such as La Joya Antigua, La Joya Nueva, Valle de Vítor and Chili Regulado, where essential products are grown. In total they concentrate 17 thousand 413.29 hectares of cultivation in charge of 7, 929 farmers.
The Regulated Chili Users Board is the one with the largest extension of agricultural area with a total of 6 thousand 676.74 hectares. However, the waters of the Chili directly or indirectly serve almost the entire population of Arequipa, for various uses, said the administrator.
