Mismi is the Amazon river source, this is a mountain peak located at 5597 MASL in the Chila mountain range in the Andes of Peru, in the Arequipa region. Mismi was identified as the most distant source of the Amazon River in 1996. The waters from Mismi flow into the streams of Carhuasanta and Apacheta, which flow into the Apurímac River. It is a tributary of the Ucayali which later joins the Marañón to form the Amazon proper.
