Colca Canyon Full Day Tour from Arequipa – Condors, Hot Springs & Andean Landscapes

Your Colca Canyon full day tour from Arequipa begins with hotel pick-up at 2:30 AM. The early departure allows us to reach the canyon during the best hours for Andean condor activity and enjoy the landscapes before traffic increases.

We leave the city of Arequipa and travel through the impressive high-altitude scenery of the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve. As the sun rises, the volcanic mountains illuminate the Andean plains, creating spectacular photo opportunities along the way.

After approximately three hours, we arrive in Chivay, the gateway to the Colca Valley, where you will enjoy breakfast in a local restaurant and have time to acclimatize before continuing deeper into the canyon.

We then head toward the valley’s most scenic and cultural viewpoints. At the Antahuilque viewpoint near Yanque, you will admire ancient pre-Inca agricultural terraces that still sustain local communities today. The panoramic views here highlight the extraordinary engineering of early Andean civilizations.

Next, we visit the archaeological viewpoint of Choquetico, where you can observe hanging tombs and symbolic rock carvings that reveal the spiritual traditions of the region’s ancestral cultures.

We continue to the traditional village of Maca, known for its colonial church, local handicrafts, and stunning canyon scenery. Another scenic highlight is Wayrapunko, a natural stone arch formation shaped by wind and erosion, offering unique views of the canyon landscape.

The main highlight of the morning is the iconic Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint along the edge of the majestic Colca Canyon. This is the best place to observe the Andean condor in flight. During the morning hours, thermal air currents allow these magnificent birds to soar gracefully above the canyon, often passing close to visitors. Your guide will explain the geology of the canyon, the ecological importance of the condor, and the cultural history of the Colca Valley.

After exploring the canyon and its viewpoints, we relax in the natural hot springs. These thermal waters are rich in minerals and provide the perfect opportunity to unwind while surrounded by Andean mountain scenery.

Following the hot springs experience, we enjoy lunch in Chivay, where you can taste traditional Andean cuisine.

In the afternoon, we begin our return journey to Arequipa. On the way back, we stop at the high-altitude viewpoint of Patapampa, also known as the “Mirador de los Volcanes,” where you can admire spectacular views of snow-capped peaks such as Misti, Chachani, Ampato, and Sabancaya.

Continuing through the reserve, we make a final scenic stop at Pampa Cañahuas, one of the best areas to observe wild vicuñas roaming freely across the Andean plains — a perfect ending to this immersive highland experience.

Arrival in Arequipa is scheduled at 5PM.

This Colca Canyon full day tour combines condor watching, traditional villages, archaeological viewpoints, relaxing hot springs, volcanic panoramas, and wildlife observation — offering a complete and unforgettable Andean adventure in just one day
